Scott is a graduate of Cleveland Marshall College of Law and is licensed to practice law in the state of Minnesota. Miller received his B.S.B. from the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management.
Miller is a Graduate of the Esperti Peterson Advanced Studies Institute, Teton Institute, and Business Enterprises Institute. Miller has presented at the Teton Institute and taught many Continued Education Courses for Financial Advisors, Insurance Professionals, Accountants, Farm Business Managers and Nursing Home Social Workers. Miller has been featured in the book Wealth Management Teams and in the Dairy Star, a monthly publication for the Dairy Industry.
Publications by Attorney Miller include the Medical Assistance Reference Manual. Miller is a member of Wealth Counsel, National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Minnesota State Bar Association Probate and Trust Law Sections, and the Hennepin County Medical Assistance Committee.
Miller established Miller Law Offices in 1996, with a name change to Miller Legal Strategic Planning Centers, P.A. in 2004 to more accurately reflect the nature of the firm's business and focus. Miller Legal currently has offices throughout Minnesota to serve you, as well as a network of Farm Business Managers, Ag Lenders, CPAs, and Financial Advisors that we work with and can schedule meetings at any of their locations too.
Luke grew up on a family-owned dairy farm in Plainview, MN. He earned a Bachelors of Science, a Bachelors of Arts, and a Masters in Business Administration from Saint Cloud State University. He earned a certificate from the Bryce Harlow Institute on Business and Government Affairs. Luke earned his law degree from Hamline University School of Law.
Prior to law school, Luke worked in bank management and investment sales. During law school, Luke worked in bank management, financial sales, and auditing mortgage loans. He also gained legal experience, including clerkships for a district judge, the Minnesota National Guard’s Staff Judge Advocate’s office, and multiple law firms. Luke is currently listed as a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice.
Luke resides in Marshall, MN with his wife and daughter and is an avid fan of St Cloud State University hockey
Mark Balzarini is a graduate of Hamline University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in the states of Minnesota and South Dakota. Balzarini received his B.A from the Franciscan University in Stuebenville, Ohio.
Mark Balzarini is a member of the Wealth Counsel and Minnesota State Bar Association Probate and Trust Law Sections.
He conducts seminars for Financial Planners, Accountants, Farm Business Managers, Health Organizations, and Nursing Home Social Workers, as well as the general public in Minnesota and South Dakota.
Tim Hansen graduated from Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1983. He has been practicing law since his admission to the bar in Wisconsin in 1983, followed by admission to the bar in Minnesota in 1984. He has been practicing in Rochester, Minnesota since 1985 concentrating in matters pertaining to real estate and small business. In that time, Tim has examined title and handled many real estate and business transactions.
Tim is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the Olmsted County Bar Association. He has received the peer review rating of AV® from Martindale Hubbell®. In addition, he is a qualified neutral under Rule 114 of the Minnesota General Rules of Practice and is currently listed on the Minnesota Civil Facilitative/Hybrid panel of the statewide Rule 114 neutrals roster. He is a long time title insurance agent for First American Title Insurance Company.
Professional volunteer activities include membership on the Legislative Committee for the Real Estate Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and membership on the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Third District Ethics Committee.

Strategic Assistant to Atty Miller & Office Manager
Carrie Birath is the Office Administrator and Strategic Assistant to Attorney Miller. Carrie received her Bachelor degree in Finance from Mankato State University. Carrie began her career with the firm in 2000.
Carrie spends much of her time on our systems and processes and how we can improve our service. She also is the key liaison for financial advisors, insurance advisors and accountants we work with.
Carrie also manages our technology development. We recognize the opportunity to use technology to serve our clients more efficiently.
Carrie lives on a farm outside of Lake Benton with her husband and two boys. She enjoys gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
Monica assists with trust administration, probate, and medical assistance.
Monica has a strong bookkeeping and financial background gained from her experience working in both public accounting and private accounting prior to joining the firm.
Monica lives in Tyler, MN with her husband and their very spoiled dog.
Gretchen Tommeraasen serves as a Funding Coordinator for Miller Legal. Gretchen has the responsibility of maintaining and processing client financial information.
Gretchen worked in a company giving her experience with legal documents for 5 years prior to starting her career with Miller Legal in 2011. Gretchen also has a banking background of 6 years which helps her understand the importance of financial planning.
Gretchen was born and raised and still currently lives in Tyler, Minnesota with her husband and two children.
Kathy Wilmes began working at Miller Legal in July 2010 and is currently the LifePlan Coordinator and Funding Assistant. Miller Legal is committed to creating and maintaining estate plans that work by offering the LifePlan Maintenance Program.
Previously, she worked for over 20 years in the Business Office of RTR Schools primarily in the payroll department.
Kathy grew up in Tyler Minnesota, is married to Mark and has a daughter, Lindsay. When not at work, Kathy is very active in Relay For Life, the Lake Benton Opera House and loves to read, walk and spend time with family, friends and kitty, Torii.
Client Services Coordinator
Bethanni is the Client Services Coordinator and is responsible for scheduling appointments for all of the attorneys. Bethanni manages client expectations, questions, and ensures that clients receive necessary information for their meetings.
Before joining Miller Legal Bethanni worked at nursing homes where she saw first-hand the importance of making sure your assets are protected.
Bethanni grew up in Tyler, MN where she currently resides with her husband and two children.
Jana Votava joined the Miller Legal team in April 2015 as a Funding Assistant. Jana works with clients and their financial institutions to process and maintain accurate asset information and titling.
Jana previously worked for a medical billing company in Brookfield, Wisconsin for 10 years and also has a background with insurance.
Jana grew up in Marshall, Minnesota and currently lives on Rock Lake with her daughter. Jana enjoys reading and spending time outdoors and with family and friends.
Tabitha Long joined the Miller Legal team in December of 2012. She is the Receptionist at the Tyler Office and is responsible for receiving incoming calls for both the Tyler and Rochester office and dispatching them accordingly. Tabitha is also responsible for starting the process of all new client information.
In her free time Tabitha enjoys scrapbooking and hanging out with her three children, family, and friends.
Connie VanderPoel joined Miller Legal in 2013 as a Strategic Assistant. Prior to joining Miller Legal, Connie worked for Southwest Tour & Travel as their Office Manager and Cenex Harvest States, a local agricultural cooperative. Her experience in the agricultural field has proven beneficial for our farm clients.
Tami Dorenkamper joined the Miller Legal team in September 2016. Tami assists with trust administration and medical assistance cases.
Tami has experience working with medical assistance gained from her experience managing group homes for many years.
Tami lives in Ivanhoe, MN with her two dogs. When not at work Tami loves to walk, hunt, and spend time with her nephews and niece.
